Joanna Coles, who has been the editor at Marie Claire since 2006 and has now been named editor in chief at Cosmopolitan.

“[‘Coles’] great success in television and social media, her sharp instinct about women and what they want, and her experience working on a global brand make her an ideal choice for the editor role at Cosmo,”  Hearst Magazine President David Carey said in a release.

Kate White has been at Cosmo for 14 years will be leaving the women’s magazine to focus on her writing and speaking career, but will stay on as an advisor at Hearst.

During Coles time at Marie Claire she was able to increase the visibility of the magazine and produced the show Running in Heels in 2006 and hired Project Runway judge and editor Nina Garcia as fashion director linking the magazine with the show. Coles also served as a mentor on Project Runway All Stars.

Coles will begin her new role at Cosmo on September 10.

I hope she has the same success with the sex-focused glossy!
