Is this news really a surprise?! American Apparel is in the news again not just for Dov Charney allegedly chocking an employee but for their overtly sexy ads . According to the UK advertising watchdogs, the ads are “irresponsible”, the telegraph reported.

One women filed a complaint saying that the American Apparel ads featured “gratuitous” nudity and the sexualization of models who appear to be under 16.

Another women said that while visiting the site with her twelve-year-old daughter she saw 23 “unnesessarily sexual” images advertising hosiery.

Although, American Apparel  doesn’t think their ads are sexual. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) disagrees. In a statement, the UK group said:

“We considered both poses were sexually provocative and concluded that the images were irresponsible and likely to cause widespread offence, because they were displayed on a website which could be viewed by, and was likely to have appeal to, children under 16 years of age.”

ASA concluded that the ads “must not appear again”.

Well, we shall see about that. At this rate visitors of the American Apparel website might have to confirm their age for access. Will American Advertising watchdogs feel the same way?
